Iris Michel

Iris Michel has been painting and making music since childhood – for her, art is a treasure hunt: exploring the non-obvious and the unknown. A dance between searching and finding.

In oil, acrylic, and ink on canvas and paper – also in large formats – playful compositions emerge from intuitively felt perspectives. Recurring themes such as "Amphorae" and "Cracked Pots" metaphorically represent the beauty and grace, but also the fragility of our lives: strong and fragile at the same time, with cracks and history.

Nature constantly inspires her, captivating her with its cycle of becoming, being, and passing away. The Japanese concept of "wabi-sabi" —the appreciation of austere simplicity and the hidden—resonates in her work. Through abstraction, open spaces for interpretation are created for the viewer.

Iris Michel lives and works in Männedorf.
